STORM WATER AND DRAINAGE

For decades, the storm water and drainage infrastructure has been strained, over-worked and underfunded. Since taking office, I have put these investments at the top of the list.  Ongoing projects include the rehabilitation of existing drains and ditches and  an awareness of new opportunities where County Government can bring solutions to drainage issues.

BRIDGE AND ROAD DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION

Every year for the last seven years, we have designed, bid and built more bridges and road miles than the year before. In addition to new construction, the County has monitored and maintained critical components and applied preventative maintenance techniques to save money and preserve these important assets.

PUBLIC SAFETY

The work to comply with the settlement agreement from a federal lawsuit continues; the conditions in the jail have drastically improved over the past several years. We are nearing the end of the regular monitoring of jail conditions. The end of this ongoing monitoring could lead to savings to the county; however,  it will be important that the commissioners maintain vigilant oversight so that progress continues.  As your County Commissioner,  I maintain a close working relationship with the judicial and legislative branches to find alternatives to incarceration, to  provide law enforcement with the tools to do their jobs and to do so in a fiscally responsible manner.
